Located in Varina, John Rolfe Middle School has many opportunities to get students involved at their school. Rolfe offers various clubs and activities for students to join and meet peers with similar interests. Some of these are the Peer Helpers, Promote Peace Ambassadors, Student Council Association, art club, Technology Student Association and more. For students looking to exert some physical energy, there are fall, winter and spring sports. Football, track, gymnastics, soccer, basketball and tennis are offered for students throughout the school year. Cheerleading is also provided, but it is all year round. Rolfe serves students in grades sixth through eighth and has a student-to-teacher ratio of 14-to-1, which is on par with the state average. The students in this school are making higher academic progress as they move from grade to grade in Virginia. This means that students are making more considerable academic gains than their peers and are likely to improve on future state tests. The school does offer a gifted program for students who complete the process and qualify for additional support services. This program is designed to foster curiosity, metacognition and creative expression.
