For over 72 years, St. Francis de Sales School in Sherman Oaks has instilled a solid foundation for students in religion, academics and community service. Preschool, elementary and middle school students receive a quality faith-based academic education in a safe and nurturing environment. Students at each grade level gain confidence in communicating articulately and are able to achieve their goals as they develop character and morals through abiding by the school’s “Living by the A’s” philosophy. Besides academic preparedness, students learn the importance of becoming compassionate citizens of the world and lead with love in all actions. SFDS preschool classes enroll ages 3 to 5 and offer an early introduction to Catholicism with fun Biblical lessons in an age-appropriate curriculum. Preschoolers participate in play-based activities to learn socialization, fine-motor skills and independence. Classes are limited to fewer than 20 students, with a teacher-student ratio of 1 to 5, so that each child receives special attention. In kindergarten through second grade, class sizes are small, with two teachers in each room introducing students to the 10 core academic subjects, as well as daily prayer services and sacramental preparation. Specialized classes are offered in third to fifth grades for students advancing at an accelerated rate, with two teachers per class. SFDS middle school, grades six through eight, offers a rigorous curriculum geared to high school preparation: intense coursework, academic decathlons, community service participation that supports the church, and social justice projects.

I've been at this school for six years. It prepares you well for high school and makes you well-rounded. The down side is that there is not a distictive change from elementary to middle school. There definitley should be a change so the students can face reality. The food is excellent and there is a large variety of choices. The community is very welcoming. They are very good with safety as well as internet saftey.

We are so happy with SFDS as a whole. The Teachers and Staff are wonderful, everyone knows each other by name.
