Located at 120 Ashland Avenue in the Sixteen Acres neighborhood, Alfred M. Glickman Elementary School is a public school serving students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Named for Dr. Alfred M. Glickman, the school opened in 1954. Dr. Glickman was an area surgeon and previously served as chairperson on the school committee.
The school’s enrollment is approximately 340 students and 24 teachers, making the student-to-teacher ratio approximately 14-to-1. Like all Springfield schools, Glickman Elementary offers a comprehensive education with classes in subjects such as English Language Arts, science, art and music. Depending on needs, students at Glickman Elementary receive services and support from classroom teachers and specialists in speech-language, physical therapy, occupational therapy and counseling. Glickman Elementary School grounds provide a playground and green space for outdoor activities.
Through partnerships with Western New England University and Springfield College, students at Glickman Elementary School receive additional support in mathematics and physical education.
