With a mission to create the bi-literate leaders of tomorrow, Mexicayotl Academy is a small public charter elementary school serving children in kindergarten through fifth grade in the central Tucson area.
At this National Blue Ribbon School, the faculty encourage students to be self-driven, self-sufficient and self-determined from an early age with a focus on critical thinking. To help prepare students to impact their communities as part of a global society, Mexicayotl embraces interculturalism throughout its programs.
Starting in kindergarten, students are immersed in dual language education in English and Spanish with literacy and speaking skills extending beyond core language instruction into applications in all subjects, whether science or social studies. With universal language immersion, all students not only can gain bilingual fluency but can also deepen their cultural comprehension.
Outside of the core curriculum, Mexicayotl also shares their Green World focus which teaches children to be better stewards of our environment and to understand the science they need to learn to employ solutions for the world they will inherit.
In addition to hands-on learning and collaboration, students also participate in field trips, school performances and special cultural events throughout the school year to make learning at Mexicayotl Academy more meaningful well beyond the classroom.
