As part of the Tucson Unified School District, Roskruge Bilingual Magnet School is a public school serving more than 550 children in kindergarten through eighth grade with a focus on providing a bilingual, bi-literate and bicultural education.
Starting in kindergarten, students follow a dual language immersion model and are immersed in 90% Spanish and 10% English. Subsequently, in each grade the proportion of Spanish to English changes until the fifth grade when all instruction is 50/50 Spanish/English, with a goal of making students completely fluent and literate in both languages regardless of their native-speaking proficiency.
In addition to the core curriculum, students can grow in a series of complementary classes including physical education, library, computer technology, visual arts, music, mariachi and folklorico. Those with a greater passion for musical instruments can participate in the district’s online music program, where students can play, record and learn at their own pace.
As for extracurriculars, students can compete and find camaraderie in a number of interscholastic sports including volleyball, basketball, soccer, elementary cross country and track and field. Throughout the year, Roskruge also gives students opportunities to engage with their community whether through folklorico and mariachi performances or at special holiday events. This way, they can stay active and excited to learn every day.
