In northern Youngtown, Discover U Elementary is a tuition-free public charter school serving more than 100 children in kindergarten through sixth grade in addition to offering low-cost preschool for children ages three and up.
With a mission to inspire students to be curious critical thinkers and problem-solvers, Discover U offers an alternative to traditional schools. Most notably, the faculty here embrace a nurturing environment that centers on creating well-rounded individuals.
As a departure from many educational approaches, the school follows a no-homework policy so children can spend time at home with loved ones and friends which encourages more physical activity and better social development
In addition to a curriculum that focuses on core subjects, technology and the arts, Discover U integrates social-emotional learning that includes lessons in self-awareness, responsible decision-making and relationship skills.
To help kids be kids and develop both strong minds and bodies, students can play in games during physical education to build spatial awareness, balance, agility and other motor skills, as well as a team-friendly mindset.
As a relief for parents and caregivers, Discover U provides a discounted before- and after-school care program for children ages 5-12 through the local YMCA so all students can make the most of their days in an active setting.

Wonderful kindergarten teachers that do not get the recognition they so deserve. My child graduated kindergarten tonight and not one thank you from any of the managment team for the wonderful job the teachers did. The school leaders seem to require all the attention. So thank you woderful teacher.

Discover U is an amazing place. As a parent I read every review and I have to be honest. Those complaining of large class size and chaos obviously have no intrinsic understanding of the Montessori Method and the core concept of "follow the child".
