Mason Jar Ideas + Dark Chocolate Raspberry Trifle Recipe

The mason jar trend has been around for a while now, and I feel like we’ve all embraced it one way or another. Blogs, Pinterest and magazines are full of fun ideas on how to use this simple glass container with a lid, so today I thought I’d touch on three creative ways that you can use mason jars in your everyday life!

With a lid or without, mason jars are the perfect vessel for storing all sorts of little items. From an office to a sewing room, here are some creative ways that bloggers are using mason jars for organizing small items around their home.

Mason jars aren’t just for canning anymore. There are millions of different recipes and ideas out there on how to creatively cook, store and serve food out of these fun little containers. Also, almost any everyday recipe can be reworked to fit into an individual sized serving mason jar, which makes eating it all that much more fun. A treat in a mason jar given as a gift is also a great idea for neighbors around the holidays or for someones birthday.

One of my favorite ways to use mason jars is decorating with them. Because of all the different shapes and sizes, they’re perfect for lots of different things. Vases, picture frames and even lamps! Even just on their own, a gathered set of mason jars on a table, filled with some sort of medium like sand or small stones looks really neat and can add lots of character and visual interest to a space.

To round out our mason jar ideas post, I thought it would be fun to share with you a quick, easy, recipe idea of our own: Dark Chocolate Raspberry Trifle in a Jar. This dessert is seriously addicting and so very yummy. You’ll definitely want to try it out.

Most trifle recipes can be full of calories, and since we’re trying to make healthier choices this year, we did all we could to cut the excess, unnecessary fat from this recipe.

What you’ll need:

  • Dark chocolate pudding/mousse made with unsweetened almond milk and chilled in refrigerator till set.
  • Low fat cream cheese mixture: Whip 1 pint whipping cream, 1 block of 1/3 less fat cream cheese and 1/4th cup of artificial sweetener together.
  • Dark chocolate wafer cookies
  • Raspberry Puree: Simply just fresh raspberries blended up
  • Small piece of dark chocolate grated for garnish on top of the finished dessert

You really can’t go wrong with assembly. Just layer all of the ingredients in your chosen jar, until it’s full to the top. The only tip I’d give is go with thinner, rather than thicker layers. This will allow you enough room to fit all the different components in the jar nicely.

After you’re done assembling everything, screw the lid on your jar and place it in the refrigerator for at least an hour. Everything will set up and the cookie will turn into a cake-like consistency. It is beyond yummy!

These mini jars are perfect for a single serving, but you can also make this dessert in a large glass pan to take to a gathering if you want. Also feel free to leave out the fruit layer if you don’t like it, or switch out the raspberries for strawberries.
