What to Consider When Choosing a Floor for Your Home
There’s nothing quite as important in your home design as having a solid floor beneath your feet. Before you decide on what kind of floor that will be, get an idea of what flooring is the most easily maintained, the best value for you dollar – in essence, the best choice for you. We asked our flooring experts, and here’s what Hometalk Professionals South Cypress had to say about how to make the smart flooring choice:
What are the top three types of flooring that increase a home’s value?
What brings the most value can be somewhat regionalized, but hard surfaces generally create the most value. The home itself also plays a vital role in the selection of the flooring, but tile, natural stone, and hardwood are always great choices. They are classic and timeless and will continue to be staples.
What are some maintenance tips to keep these three flooring options looking their very best?
Even though most people don’t think about it, a great way to maintain your hard surface flooring day to day is vacuuming. This will help keep the dust and dirt off of the floor, which is usually the culprit for most of the surface wear that occurs on your flooring. Behind vacuuming, you are always safe using the manufacturer’s recommended cleaning products, but some national brands, such as Bona, work great as well.
If you’re on a budget, what are less expensive substitutions for these flooring options?
Laminate and luxury vinyl flooring are both great options and in many cases better options. They are very durable and work well in both homes and businesses. Both of these flooring options can have a bad stigma attached to them, but as cameras and printing have improved, so have the look and the overall realistic feel of the products. Like other products, there are lots of options and price points with laminate and luxury vinyl flooring, so keep in mind that you usually get what you pay for.
