Historically, St. Patrick’s Day is the day that commemorates Saint Patrick, the arrival of Christianity in Ireland, and the heritage and culture of the Irish in general. But those not of Christian belief or Irish decent seem to celebrate. For most, it is a great time to get out and mingle with other people in your city, donned in green. For those not knowing how to celebrate on the greenest day of the year, we’ve got you covered. Here are some of the best ways to celebrate in some of the top cities of the US.

1. New York City

The New York City Saint Patrick’s Day Parade is one of the oldest St. Patrick’s Day events in the US. You can view it live on NBC starting at 11am or even stream it online. It’s steeped in tradition and run entirely by volunteers.  It’s a great event for families and friends. You won’t want to miss it!

2. Chicago

Every year Chicago dyes its city river green for its celebration. 400,00 spectators gather to watch the waterway turn emerald green each year. It takes 25 pounds of dye to get one this water green for one day. It’s an amazing sight to see.

3. Los Angeles

Not as big of a celebration as New York or Chicago, but for those in LA you can head to Tom Bergin’s as they’re celebrating by having a 20-hour party! Named one of the Best Irish Pubs in the Country by Thrillist Nation, you can count on having a great time celebrating this Irish holiday. Find more ways to celebrate St. Paddy’s here.
