5 Things You’ll Learn by Moving Across Country

Across Country Moving: It’s an Experience Unlike Any Other

Thanks to digital and mobile technology, America’s employers are scaling down, adapting to the Cloud, and getting more accomplished in shorter spans of time. And, one way these companies are accomplishing all three of these goals is by hiring employees who work remotely.

Remote workers enable these companies to reduce their physical needs, thus lowering their overhead. But, the companies aren’t the only ones winning. Remote workers have the flexibility of being able to work from anywhere as long as they have Internet or cellular service. And for many, this means moving to the place they have always wanted to live, and in some cases, that place is across the country.

Moving across the country is a vastly different experience than moving across town or to a new city within your current state. If you’re chasing your dream of moving across the country, then here are five important things you can expect to learn over the course of your journey.

moving across country, packing up

#1: You Will Discover What Is Important to You

Moving isn’t easy, especially when you’re moving across the country. As you are packing, you will discover that you aren’t going to be able to take everything you own with you. When space is at a premium, you will look at every item you own in a different light.

You are going to have to make some difficult choices, but in the end it will pay off because you will discover what is most important to you. Take this time to weed through your belongings and donate the items that aren’t essential or absolutely meaningful to you. You will find that you will feel lighter and more liberated, and you’ll be helping out others by proxy.

#2: You Will Learn Who Your Real Friends Are

Friendships always become strained whenever one moves away. After all, your life isn’t the only one that’s going to be changed. And, when you’re separated from your friends by thousands of miles, you will quickly discover who your real friends are. These will be the people who you stay in touch with, and more importantly, who stay in touch with you despite the miles between you.

#3: You’ll Experience Some Discomfort

When you move across the country to someplace new to you, you’re basically going to be a stranger in a strange land. You are going to feel uncomfortable; but don’t worry, that’s natural. It’s going to take time for you to meet new friends, learn the lingo, and feel like you “belong,” but one day you’ll wake up and it will feel like you’ve lived there your entire life.

Moving across the country is an experience, and any experience worth having will push you. Get comfortable with being uncomfortable, own it and you’ll expand your boundaries.

#4: You’ll Discover That You’re Tougher Than You Thought

No move occurs without some sort of hiccup along the way. And, when you’re moving all the way across the country, you can certainly expect some problems to arise. Some challenges might be minor, but others might test your mettle to its limits.

Regardless of the issue, however, you will find that you have the tenacity and strength to overcome it. And once you do, you’ll soon discover that you’re tougher than you ever thought and that nothing will stop you from getting to where you need to be.

#5: You’ll Learn That Everything Is Different, But It’s Still Home

Moving across the country is a daunting task, and when you finally arrive, you are going to discover that absolutely everything is different. From the homes to the people and from the food to the weather, every part of this great country is unique and it all takes a while to get used to if you’re new to the area.

But regardless of where you choose to plant your roots, it’s always important to remember that home is where the heart is, and in short time, you’ll feel right at home in your new city.
