Teams From These Cities Hold the Most World Series Titles
It’s that time of year again. What time? World Series time! Take me out to the ball game!
The World Series is an annual championship series of Major League Baseball (MLB). The championship winner is announced following a best-of-seven game playoff that takes place in October and early November each year. Many MLB teams from across the nation fight until the finish trying to make it into the World Series. However, only one team can take home the Commissioner’s Trophy.

1. New York Yankees
The New York Yankees are one of the most successful and notable professional teams in the world. The team has won 18 division titles, 40 American League pennants, and 27 World Series championships. Forty-four Yankees players and eleven Yankees managers have been inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame, including Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle, Yogi Berra, and Whitey Ford. The Yankees are based out of the Bronx, New York and play at the Yankee Stadium. New York is home to many other sports teams as well; it is one of only two cities in the United States with more than one team in each of the four major professional sports leagues, with nine such franchises. 2. Saint Louis Cardinals
Following behind the Yankees, the St. Louis Cardinals are the second most successful Major League Baseball team. The Cardinals have 13 division titles, 19 National League pennants, and 11 World Series championships. They play their home games in Saint Louis, Missouri where many fans gather together to cheer them on at Busch Stadium. While sitting in Busch Stadium, there is a clear view of the national monument- the Gateway Arch. St. Louis has dubbed the title as the “Ultimate Sports City” by ESPN Magazine for its number of professional and collegiate sports teams.
3. Oakland Athletics
Although the last time the Oakland Athletics (also known as the Oakland A’s) won a World Series championship was in 1989, they still have the third most championship victories the Major League Baseball. The A’s have won 16 division titles, 15 American League pennants, and 9 World Series championships. They can be found in Oakland, California where their stadium, the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum, is located. This stadium doubles as a football stadium for Oakland Raiders. While in Oakland, you can also see other major league teams like the Golden State Warriors play.
4. Boston Red Socks (tie)
No matter what team you may like, chances are you have heard of Fenway Park. It is said to be America’s “most beloved ballpark” and is the oldest stadium in MLB. Fenway Park is home to the Boston Red Sox. Often referred to as a founding member of the American League of MLB, the Red Sox have won 9 division titles, 13 American League pennants, and 8 World Series championships. The team can be found playing in Boston, Massachusetts where many fans can not only enjoy a baseball game but many other major league sports as well, including the Boston Celtics and the New England Patriots.
5. San Francisco Giants (tie)
Although the San Francisco Giants haven’t won the most World Series championships, they do hold the record for most games won in American baseball. They also hold the best win-loss record in the National League West division and are second overall. The Giants have 8 division titles, 23 National League pennants, and 8 World League championships. Once New York natives, the San Francisco Giants relocated to San Francisco, California in 1958 and now play at the AT&T Park. In 2012, San Francisco was ranked #1 among America’s Best Baseball cities. San Francisco is also home to other major league teams such as the San Francisco 49ers.
