What do NFL Fans Look for in a New Home?
It’s the season that football fans look forward to year-round: each Sunday, NFL fans can be found posted up on their sofa with their eyes glued to their TV screens, or tossing back a few beers and several dozen wings at their favorite sports bar as they watch their favorite team take on the competition. Cheering on your team or rooting for the enemy to lose is a favorite pastime of many Americans. In fact, NFL fandom can bring complete strangers together.
But, what else do football fans have in common besides their love of the sport? At Homes.com, we’re always curious as to what Americans prioritize when shopping for a new home. With NFL fans top of mind this time of year, we thought it would be interesting to see what commonalities certain fanbases have when it comes to home-buying preferences. We conducted a survey to get answers and you can find the most intriguing insights below.
What NFL Fans are Looking for Inside a Home
It turns out that NFL fans believe that the family or living room is the most important room of the house. Our guess is because they spend so much time in the family room watching football! Other rooms that ranked highly in importance were the kitchen and the master bedroom.
When it comes to the interior of a home, most fans of major NFL teams prefer either mid-century or contemporary design aesthetics. However, fans of the Dallas Cowboys were the one group who chose “western” more than any other interior design style.
What NFL Fans are Looking for on the Outside
Most major NFL fanbases prefer ranch-style homes, but those who cheer for the Packers would rather live in a Victorian home. Fans of teams in the NFC were more likely to choose a contemporary home than those of the AFC.
When it comes to external material preferences, AFC fans tend to lean towards a combination of wood and stone, while NFC fans prefer a wood and brick combo.
Fans of the Steelers, Patriots, Packers, Cowboys, and Seahawks would all rather live in a smaller home if it meant they could have more land. However, Bears and Broncos fans would prioritize square footage over acreage.
Home Location Preferences of NFL Fans
The respondents most likely to prefer a suburban setting for their home were fans of the Seattle Seahawks, Green Bay Packers, Chicago Bears, and Denver Broncos. Those who would rather live in a rural area were fans of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Dallas Cowboys, and New England Patriots.
The Most Green Fans in the NFL
Many people will eliminate a new abode if there are no energy efficient or eco-friendly elements to the home. Some NFL fanbases prioritized these “green” elements more than others, making those teams appear to be more eco-friendly than others. According to our survey, the three greenest fanbases in the NFL are the Steelers, the Packers, and the Broncos.
One way to live a more sustainable lifestyle is to move into a trendy “tiny home.” The teams with fans most likely to live in a tiny home are the Steelers, the Bears, and the Patriots.
While there are certain things that all NFL fans can agree upon, including the importance of a good family room to watch the big game, there are other home-buying elements on which fanbases don’t agree on as closely, such as preferences around rural or suburban settings. Either way, this survey taught us that each team’s fans have more in common than just who they cheer for each Sunday afternoon.
