Rise to the Top, and Visit Tommy Hilfiger’s Plaza Penthouse!

Fashion Mogul Tommy Hilfiger has been trying to part ways with his Plaza Penthouse since back in 2013. A decade ago, Hilfiger and his wife purchased two twin units in the Plaza for $25.5 million. After a few renovations, the two units were combined into a single, enormous penthouse.

As a world-renowned fashion icon, it should come as no surprise that Hilfiger’s Plaza Penthouse is meticulously detailed. The opulent corner penthouse is the Plaza’s crown jewel, as it boasts breathtaking Central Park and Fifth Avenue views. But it’s the inside of the home that has us breathless.

Ready to see what life is like at the top? Read on to look inside the home of one of America’s most famous lifestyle designers.

Live Life Like a Royal at The Plaza

The Plaza has a long-standing reputation for being New York’s most luxurious hotel and residence. Even a quick trip to the lobby showcases $200,000 bottles of whiskey and diplomats speaking every language. If you’re seeking a home to match your sophisticated lifestyle, this luxurious Plaza penthouse may be the perfect fit.

Tommy Hilfiger and his wife poured $20 million worth of home renovation improvements into their deluxe penthouse, restoring the home to its original French-Renaissance style. As you enter the home, you’re greeted by a large gallery that ushers you into a regal grand salon. Ornate details abound in this room, as marble molding complements French tile, but the room’s true showstopper is the salon, which has a direct view of the Grand Armory Plaza on Fifth Avenue.

Off of the grand salon, you’ll find a cozy library alcove. Recessed shelves hold rare books, and a built-in velvet couch offers the perfect spot to enjoy fine literature. Other exquisite rooms on the main floor include a custom-paneled office, a powder room, an eat-in kitchen, a media room, and a chateau-style formal dining room.

But our favorite room on this level has to be the ethereal tearoom. Shaped as in a dome, the tearoom features a custom hand-painted mural by Hilary Knight, author of Eloise at The Plaza, and overlooks Central Park. We think Eloise would say the room looks, “rather divine.”

Ascend to Heaven in This Stylish Plaza Penthouse

After you’ve picked your jaw up off the floor from viewing the first floor’s grandeur, make your way to the penthouse’s upper level. As you ascend the staircase, you’ll admire the home’s custom stonework and reclaimed hardwood floors that run throughout the penthouse.

Once you’ve arrived at the top of the sweeping spiral staircase, you’ll find four private bedroom suites and four full bathrooms. The home’s most coveted room, the corner tower master suite, models perfection.

Tall vaulted ceilings create an airy, open feel to the room. The sophisticated retreat includes a decorative stone fireplace, a stunning chandelier, double dressing rooms, and a spa-inspired bathroom. The room’s real attraction, though, is a private terrace that overlooks Central Park. Imagine a picnic here, next to the Plaza’s iconic grand dome — it doesn’t get much better than this!

While the three additional bedrooms don’t have private terraces, the three bedroom suites are delightful in their own right; each room has been uniquely designed in whimsical nautical, rock-n-roll, or a lavender fields theme.

Talking Numbers, What Does It Take to Get to the Top?

Tommy Hilfiger’s home was originally listed at $80 million back in 2013, making it one of the most expensive homes in America on the market at the time. Since then, the price has dropped down to $50 million. Even if the home does sell for the lower $50 million asking price, Hilfiger and his wife will secure nearly double what they paid for the home in 2008, $25.5 million. Are you ready to rise to the top?
