Plank + Pillow’s Farmhouse Favorites

by Brooke and Henry JonesJanuary 28, 2019

It’s 2019! For us, this new year means a new home. We’re planning on building, but many will be looking for a house to buy. If I had to guess a particular style that buyers will be seeking, it would be the modern farmhouse. It has quickly become one of the most popular house styles in the country, thanks to TV shows like Fixer Upper.

In my opinion, there’s probably no better place to find a modern farmhouse than in the great state of Tennessee. Farmhouses and Tennessee simply belong together, like apple pie and vanilla ice cream!

Our Tennessee modern farmhouse will be going on the market later this year. But since I can’t offer it to you at the moment, I’ve found three absolutely stunning farmhouses that I’m sure you would love to buy. If we weren’t building, I know I would love to buy one of them myself!

When searching for a home, we always look for “must-haves” and “nice-to-haves.”  For example, upscale kitchens and master baths are a couple of our priority must-haves.

Let’s take a look at these three modern farmhouses, and see what they have to offer.

New and Modern

This brand new modern farmhouse in Franklin, TN has five bedrooms and five full baths. The designers and builders absolutely nailed the modern farmhouse aesthetic on the exterior! The crisp black windows against the clean white board and batten siding is a definite must-have when looking for a modern farmhouse.

The black fence surrounding the property adds to the overall farm vibe and would be on my list of nice-to-haves.

I love the open floor plan in this house. Having a seamless flow in the family room, kitchen, and dining area is a must-have for us. The large ten-foot island in the kitchen is certainly a focal point and can easily accommodate six bar stools. The extra seating would be very nice to have when hosting friends and family for dinner.

This master bath definitely makes the must-have list! It has a huge walk-in shower, and I’m in love with the shiplap wainscoting surrounding the tub. Plus, the chevron pattern of the floor tile is a very nice touch, and I have to say that is an incredible view above the tub!

Something Extra Special

Here is another farmhouse in Franklin, TN, and this one is an absolute show stopper! Even though the exterior is painted shake as opposed to a more traditional farmhouse siding choice, this home exhibits the true essence of “modern farmhouse”, which for us is a must-have. I also love the galvanized metal roof on this house. Not many things say “farmhouse” more than a metal roof. Not only is the exterior of this house stunning, but so is the landscaping! Often times, landscaping is overlooked when house shopping, but it is certainly nice to have beautiful flowers, shrubs, and trees surrounding your new house when you move in.

Now, this is a gourmet kitchen! Waterfall marble countertop, high-end appliances, and even a built-in espresso maker. Our espresso maker currently sits on the counter, but after seeing one that is built-in, I think I have a new must-have!

When building or buying a house, we never put a lot of emphasis on the master bedroom. For us, it’s a room we don’t spend much time in. Having a fireplace in the master would not be something we would consider. However, after seeing this gorgeous bedroom, I can see how it would be a nice-to-have. I also love the vaulted ceiling and beams in this room. It adds an element of grandeur.

We currently have dual shower heads in our shower, which we couldn’t live without. So how could you go wrong by adding a third shower head? And the hammered copper tub create a beautiful contrast with all of the marble tile.

Recently Remodeled

The third and final house on our list is this beauty in Nashville. It’s over 5,000 square feet with four bedrooms and 4 full baths. This one is actually a remodel, but you would never know it. They did an excellent job of transforming this home into a true modern farmhouse complete with super clean lines, black windows, and even some white painted brick.

I love lots of natural light. So having a lot of windows is always a must-have. The family room in this house gets high marks in that category. It’s open, airy, and looks like the perfect place to relax by the fire.

This truly is a chef’s kitchen. Marble subway tile all the way to the ceiling and high-end appliances would make this kitchen a dream to prepare meals in. The island is a little smaller than the other two kitchens, but everything else makes up for it.

If there was ever a must-have shower, this is it! Marble everywhere, and it’s so large, there’s no need for a shower door. You just walk right in! And on the other side, there is a sleek modern fireplace above the tub!

Which one would you buy?

I know, that’s a difficult question. Each of these modern farmhouses are special! For us, each one of these homes includes all of our must-haves and lots of our nice-to-haves. This is so important in choosing the perfect dream home for your family! So, now that we know each home is worthy of buying and calling our own, which one will you choose?
