Detroit Piston Blake Griffin Officially Lists Los Angeles Mansion
NBA Superstar Changes Course and Goes With the MLS
When you’re used to being on top, it can sometimes be challenging to accept that you have to follow convention in order to get results. This can be true for successful billionaires, big time popstars, and even sports superstars. Blake Griffin, who is likely to be in the NBA Hall of Fame someday, has been on top for so long that it can be forgiven for him to think that the rules don’t apply.
First, he was one of the most successful college basketball players of his generation, racking up multiple school records at Oklahoma in his two years there. Then he was a celebrated addition to the Los Angeles Clippers, who selected the power forward first overall in the 2009 NBA draft. He’s played basketball as a professional now for a decade, racking up numerous awards, and was only recently traded away from Los Angeles to help lead a basketball renaissance in Detroit.
With all this success, it is perhaps understandable that when it came time to sell his Los Angeles home last year, he thought he didn’t need an MLS listing to get the job done, listing the home himself at a price of nearly twelve million dollars. Well, one of the hallmarks of a great player is that they can adjust their angle of attack when they aren’t getting the results they want. Griffin’s home in Pacific Palisades is back on the market, with a slightly more modest asking price of $10.995 million and an official MLS listing. Let’s take a peek inside the home of a bona fide basketball superstar.
What Eleven Million Could Get You in Pacific Palisades
In the fall of 2013, the power forward, bolstered by a five-year contract worth more than $171 million to play for the Clippers, purchased this stunning brand new (at that time) modified colonial mansion for nine million dollars. The home is a luxurious, yet casual home of nearly ten-thousand square feet, and features six bedrooms, and six and a half bathrooms. It boasts a host of fine details, including a secured gated entrance and nearly a third of an acre’s worth of exquisitely detailed grounds.
The interior of the home features wide-plank hardwood floors stained the shade of rich espresso, and custom millwork details throughout the main floor’s living and entertaining spaces. The home’s foyer has twenty-four foot ceilings and a gorgeous curved staircase that sweeps up to the second floor where the bedrooms are located.
The living room has a myriad of built-in details, including a wall of sliding glass that opens into the back yard, and another wall of floor-to-ceiling bookshelves that frame a massive fireplace. The home’s dining room boasts double-coffered ceilings and ample space for a massive table. The chef-worthy kitchen, with its snack bar and beautiful appliances, opens into a terrific little family room, complete with another fireplaces own collection of sliding glass windows.
Other Amenities Once Enjoyed by Blake Griffin in This Bel Air Estate
In reality, this home has almost too many amenities to list. There is a screening room or home theater, a game and entertainment room, a home office, an expansive master suite, luxurious bathrooms, and more. The backyard has a multiple outdoor living areas, including two elevated balconies, a large, tiled, in-ground pool and spa, and a half court basketball court.
Living Like a Big Baller
Hopefully shifting tactics and going with convention will work out for the Rookie of the Year, six-time NBA all star, and four-time member of the All-NBA team. With some luck, this MLS listing will do the trick and move this now-eleven million dollar Pacific Palisades beauty. If not, maybe he can put it on the back of a truck and ship it to Detroit, where one assumes there is plenty of available land.
