Jodie Foster’s Lovely Beverly Hills Home, Listed for $15.9M
Wait, There’s a House Behind those Shrubs?
Actress, director and two-time Oscar Winner Jodie Foster is selling her traditional Beverly Hills home for the sum of $15.9 million. Perhaps in a bid to downsize, the private star and her wife suddenly slapped their house on the market only seven years after purchasing it for $11.75 million way back in 2012.
Has Ms. Foster finally decided to become a full-time tornado chaser or is she just moving to a space colony for the super rich? Speculation aside, the relatively unassuming Los Angeles property is likely to become a sleeper hit for SoCal house hunters as attention begins to mount.
Where Nature Meets Extravagance
Located in the Beverly Hills Gateway neighborhood along Coldwater Canyon Dr., the .65 acre property sits like a palisade along the Eastern crest of a sprawling canyon which is part of a 605-acre nature park. The surrounding landscape is covered in native chaparral and lush grassland with over five miles of winding trails for carefree outdoorsy wanderings.
Within minutes of oodles of high-end shops on the Sunset Strip and the eccentric energy of downtown Hollywood, the place somehow manages to feel tucked away, almost lost, in a simpler time.
A House Fit for Two… Oscars
The 7,500 square foot dream home, originally built in 1952, has been remodeled and updated throughout the years to keep up with the times. Stepping inside, guests are welcomed into a brightly lit two-story foyer with a darling staircase leading upstairs to the second floor and master bedroom. Ridge panel walls and dark wooden floors give a sophisticated and modern impression woven throughout the interior.
Sets of double-doors open from the living room and kitchen into the backyard for a breathtaking view and access to the refreshing canyon breeze. Vaulted ceilings on the second story and North wing lift the mood and allow for plenty of space to stretch out.
At $2,120 per square foot, the average American would have to work their entire life twice just to make a down payment on this exquisite manse. That’s enough to make just about anyone want to jump in a panic room.
What’s on the Outside Counts, Too
A blockade of giant conifers and 12-foot tall shrubs encircle the property along with two security gates for a completely private home-life. On the spacious brick patio in the backyard, there’s a pleasantly tapered outdoor brick fireplace perfect for chilling beside on a cool evening.
French double doors and ample windows let plenty of natural sunlight pour into and fill each room. Next to the pool is a louvered awning to relax beneath and escape the din of everyday life. The tiered backyard has a long and narrow strip of grass ideal for croquet or playing fetch with Fido. For extra wows, an upper deck looks out over the city, offering a panoramic view with the ocean in sight.
Jodie Ain’t Sayin’ Nothin’
Ms. Foster, who is very tight-lipped about her private life, has not revealed any details about where she plans to go next, but she has been keeping very busy. Having started acting as a child, Foster has been working mostly behind the camera in recent years, directing films and shows such as House of Cards and Black Mirror.
She announced late last year she will be directing and starring in an adaptation of the environmental Icelandic thriller Woman at War. But right now, it seems that a top priority for Ms. Foster is finding a buyer for her charming retreat. The central location, privacy, and exhilarating views are what make this house a true show stopper.
