The Royal Family as Neighbors: Who Was Voted the Best and Worst?

While we can all dream about the seemingly unattainable goal of being a part of the Royal Family, we can dream about something more feasible– being their neighbor. Homes.com surveyed over 1,000 people on which royals they think would be the best, and worst, neighbor to live next to.

While we can all dream about the seemingly unattainable goal of being a part of the Royal Family, it may make sense to start with something a little more feasible– like being their neighbor. Okay, so maybe being their neighbor is just as equally impossible as actually becoming a member of the family, but what if it weren’t? Homes.com surveyed over 1,000 people on which royals they think would be the best, and worst, neighbor to live next to, and this is what you had to say:

Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan: The Friendly Neighbors

This dynamic duo might be giving up their royal duties, but our survey showed they still hold the hearts of many. Over 39% of respondents said the pair would be the most likely to ask for a cup of sugar, which makes sense considering the duo has been known as approachable since their debut. They’ll also be “the” place to go for any holiday or birthday celebrations since more than 40% of respondents think Harry and Meghan would throw the best house party. So, if you’re looking to live near a fun family in a lively neighborhood, this is the royal couple to move near.

Prince William and Duchess Kate: The Quiet Neighbors

If you prefer living in a quiet neighborhood, Prince William and Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, might be the best neighbors to have. Flying under the radar, despite their media popularity, they only took one top spot in our survey–with over 31% of people saying they would have the best kitchen for entertaining. It appears the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge appear to be ideal neighbors who would live out their royal lives in a pretty low-key way. In fact, they came in last place with roughly 12% saying they would be a nosy neighbor. Don’t mind us, we’ll just be browsing for homes next door to Kensington Palace.

Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip: The Refined Neighbors

Living next to the Queen and Prince Philip might seem like a fun way to spend your days as a homeowner, but you know what they say about making assumptions. Dubbed as the “refined” neighbors, Her Majesty and Philip were voted least likely to have an unruly front yard. This makes perfect sense, as Buckingham Palace is always beautifully landscaped with rows of flowers and perfectly cut, bright green grass. But, buyer beware; if your standards are less than a perfectly manicured lawn, expect the Homeowners Association to give you a ring. Nearly 31% of respondents voted the Queen and Philip as most likely to call the HOA on you. Thinking twice about living near this royal couple?

Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla: The Antisocial Neighbors

Despite a long history of romance, drama, and royal “tea” (sorry, we had to), Prince Charles and Camilla are the two neighbors that might be the least problematic– despite being voted as the ones most likely to argue on the front lawn by 23.7%. Although Camilla has experienced her fair share of bad coverage since joining the Royal Family after Charles and Diana’s split, the couple has laid relatively low since marrying in 2005. So, maybe they’ll be pretty easy neighbors to get along with after all.

Prince Andrew: The “Hot Mess Express” Neighbor

The second son of the Queen and Prince Philip didn’t enjoy the same neighborly success as his other royal family members. Prince Andrew, who stepped back from his public duties in 2019, took the crown in some of the least favorable categories, with 37% saying he would likely have the messiest lawn. To be fair, if we had 21 acres of lush greenery and no royal servants to help, our lawn would be pretty unkept too. He was also dubbed the most nosy neighbor by 23% of respondents, and although the royals are known for unique hats, grandiose homes (do castles even count as homes?), and plenty of corgis, Prince Andrew was also voted by 24.5% of respondents as the royal most likely to have tacky home decor. If that’s not enough to convince you not to live next to Prince Andrew, then take this into consideration– 32% of those surveyed agreed he would be most likely to start a home renovation project and never finish it. Is it because of the change in his annual salary? Maybe, but the £7.5 million Prince Andrew spent on renovations at his home, the Royal Lodge, makes us wonder if there’s even anything left that needs to be renovated.

Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie: The Forgotten Neighbors

While other royals either were crowned as the best or worst neighbors in certain categories, Princess Beatrice and Eugenie were middle of the road for every ranking. With all the media buzz surrounding Harry and Meghan and Prince Andrew’s royal blunder, these two might be the neighbors to have if you don’t want the drama that problematic neighbors can bring. Always on the road and out of the way, you’ll have peace of mind knowing nothing can go wrong with neighbors like these Princesses, especially since only 10% of respondents said they would be least likely to call the HOA on you. Not bad, right?

The Best Neighbor is Crowned…

It shouldn’t come as a surprise to who took the crown for being the overall best neighbor. Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, have over one-third of respondents wanting them as their neighbor. Prince William and Kate came in a close second at 26% and Princess Beatrice and Eugenie came in last.

No matter which category the Royal Family members fell under, we have to be honest and say we’d love to have any of them on our block. Which royal would you want as your neighbor? Let us know in the comments below!
