We’ve all seen the iconic Little Tikes Cape Cottage Playhouse™ whether it’s in a friend’s yard, online, or at your favorite big box store. It’s so cute with its little front door, darling roof, moveable shutters; it’s a child’s dream that encourages active play and an even more active imagination. Recently, parents aren’t just satisfied with the cottage right out of the box and plopping it into the yard, they want something more. Something with a little razzle-dazzle. Something that’s a one of a kind masterpiece fit for their children and their home. But what if you need some inspiration to help get the creative juices flowing? Well, Serena Appiah from Thrift Diving is here to help save the day! She’s created a Little Tikes cottage for practically everyone’s taste and occasion.
The Life-Like Playhouse
Looking for something that resembles a home just like yours? Serena created a playhouse that looks like it could belong on your block tomorrow! Complete with painted brick, actual grouted river rock, and a teal roof, it’s sure to please both the adults and children in your life. If this sounds just like the type of cottage you’d like to overhaul, check out her tutorial, you won’t be disappointed.
The Holiday Cottage
Maybe you want to keep the spirit of the holidays alive all year long or want to gift this cottage for the special child in your life? We have something for you. For this look, you’ll need white, medium gray, and dark gray spray paint, the festive fabric of your choosing, and some spray adhesive. Don’t forget the battery operating lights, a festive ornament, and a wreath to help tie this unique look together! You’ll be saying “ho ho ho” all year long and crazing hot cocoa, promise.
The Springtime Escape
What’s not to love about spring? The birds are chirping, the flowers are blooming and everything just gets cheerier. To keep the happy feeling of this season close to you year-round, you’ll need some stencils, Duck Egg blue paint (trust us on this color), sandpaper, and a heap of patience. This cottage is beyond worth the extra time and effort you’ll need to create something folks will enjoy for years to come. Don’t forget to add fun accessories like an easter egg pedestal table or a funky lamp for late-night adventures in the yard. Our favorite feature is the flower box where real or faux blooms can be installed for that pop of color and depth.
Serena Appiah is clearly a Jill-of-all-trades and is a master of her craft! There is no project that she can’t completely transform!
