Warmer weather will be here before you know it! What better way to usher it in than by building a DIY backyard fire pit? This step-by-step tutorial video takes out all the guesswork of installing this popular backyard amenity.

It may not feel like it, but warmer weather will be here before you know it! And, call us crazy, but there are few joys better than enjoying a beautiful evening spending time with friends or family around a backyard firepit. Whether you’re relaxing or having a full blown jam session, a firepit is the perfect setting.

If you don’t have one, we’ve got you covered! Don’t go spending a few hundred dollars when you can easily build your own backyard firepit with this step-by-step tutorial.

Here’s what you’ll need for this project:

  1. Paint – to mark your firepit outline (spray paint is recommended)
  2. Shovel – to dig the base of your firepit
  3. Level – to make sure your firepit base doesn’t slope
  4. Bedding stones/gravel – to create the drainage bed (note: don’t use river rock!)
  5. Your choice of bricks, stones or pavers – to build the firepit walls
  6. Landscape/construction adhesive – to help keep the walls more secure
  7. Rubber mallet – to help ensure the wall pieces fit snugly
  8. S’MORES – to celebrate building your own firepit 😉
