The Heart of Downtown
In most locales, the best way to get a feel for the community is through the downtown area; and Columbus does not disappoint! Featuring a collection of local shops, restaurants and historic architecture, this neighborhood has it all. And, it’s rich with history too…Columbus’ oldest bar and restaurant (and one of the first in all of Indiana) is located right downtown! Simply named “Columbus Bar,” this local favorite has served specialty beers and hometown pub food for over 75 years.
Another local favorite? Zaharakos Old-Fashioned Ice Cream Parlor and Museum, the perfect place for ice cream sundaes, homemade sodas and milkshakes. Fun fact: the shop is over 110 years old and much of the original decor is still in place today! Zaharakos is consistently named as Indiana’s best ice cream shop. Next time we’re in Columbus, we’re already planning to try all of their famous sodas!
