Surrounded by nature in the Conejo Valley

In the Conejo Valley, Midtown is a neighborhood with an iconic local music scene, with lush subdivisions surrounded by canyon hiking trails and Malibu beaches in the foothills of the Santa Monica Mountains. This peaceful neighborhood in Agoura Hills offers quick access to Los Angeles and a reputable education system. "People move here for schools in the Las Virgenes district," says Judy Burke, Realtor at eXp Realty, who specializes in this area. "It is only a few miles from the valley, and you can still work in LA."

Eclectic homes have lush landscaping and in-ground pools

The cul-de-sacs are lined with oak and palm trees, making Midtown feel like a Mediterranean forest with a view of the mountains. "It's one of the hottest areas in the Conejo Valley because of the geography," Burke says. "You can grow different plants here because of the microclimate." Houses are rooted in established subdivisions with monthly HOA fees typically under $100. Its housing stock features New Traditional, Craftsman and Mediterranean homes built in the 1970s and 1980s. While there is a broad mix of single-level and two-story homes, some properties reach 3,000 square feet and have in-ground pools. Prices range from $1 million to $1.5 million.

Locals hike the Santa Monica Mountains and visit Malibu beaches

Formerly an area for cattle grazing, Cheeseboro & Palo Comado Canyon has equestrian, mountain biking and hiking trails across 4,000 acres of chaparral plains. Multiple trailheads in Agoura Hills access the park, and the canyons are home to wildlife such as coyotes and bobcats. "If you want to go hiking, there are accessible neighborhood trails in Agoura Hills," Burke says. "You get the cool ocean breeze, and it's not as hot as Simi Valley." About 4 miles south, the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area is one of the region's most significant natural attractions, with 500 miles of trails on jagged green mountains with sweeping views of LA below. Forest Cove Park is a more local green space with a baseball diamond, basketball court and a sandy playground in Midtown. One of Malibu's famous crescent-shaped shorelines is Paradise Cove Beach, a cove sheltered by cliffs about 15 miles south.
