Many of Allenview's homeowners have been there for decades, but newer homebuyers are also coming into the community. “We’re seeing a little bit of resurgence in that area,” says Realtor Misty Metschke, who sells homes in the neighborhood with Hunziker & Associates. “People are buying these homes that people have lived in for 20 to 30 years and are now updating them.” The neighborhood is composed of a mix of 1960s bi-levels and ranch styles that are priced from $260,000 to $400,000. The yards are shaded by old-growth trees, and the streets are lined with sidewalks. Residents may hear some noise from a train track that runs past the neighborhood’s west side. “You may get a train that runs once or twice a day. And Ames has a no horn ordinance,” Metschke explains.

The A-Niche-rated Fellows Elementary School is on Allenview's south end, within walking distance of most homes. North River Valley Park has barbecue grills and picnic pavilions along the South Skunk River. Visitors can use the park to access Skunk River Trail, a wooded dirt path that runs along the river.
