A laid-back Ames suburb
The winding streets of College Creek take their names from literary giants such as Poe, Twain and Cervantes. No sole attraction draws people to this whimsical suburb; many things make it popular. College Creek is within a short walk of Ames Community Theater, a nonprofit playhouse with performances throughout the year. This neighborhood's playful nature is also captured by one of its most popular businesses, KD Game Room Supply, which is chock full of pinball machines, pool tables and dart boards. Its attractions may be plentiful, but its stability is the neighborhood's defining factor. "Things have not changed a lot while I've lived here," says Realtor Misty Metschke, who has called College Creek home for 18 years and sells property there with Hunziker & Associates. "The neighborhood's just kind of matured and become more comfortable. We've gotten to know our neighbors, but now some older folks are moving out, and new people are coming in."
A newer area of Ames, College Creek is the perfect mix of relaxation and activity.

Contemporary and ranch-style homes
The roads are lined with sidewalks and lit by streetlamps. The well-kept lawns are shaded by a diverse sampling of tree species, and most yards are fenced in. The majority of homes have attached garages and were built between the mid-1970s and around 2020. Contemporary-style houses are the most common design throughout, but there are also several ranch styles. The houses are priced from $210,000 to $480,000. Condos from the 1980s and '90s are on the neighborhood's northeast corner and are priced from $160,000 to $210,000. A cluster of apartments is on College Creek's southeast corner. "A lot of college students live in apartments," Metschke says. "Young professionals are attracted to the condos and townhomes, which are both for sale and rent."
Large modern homes add sophistication to the College Creek neighborhood.
Spacious ranch homes make College Creek ideal for those seeking classic designs.

Children can follow the trail to the middle school and Southwest Recreation Complex, where Iowa State athletic teams run track meets, play soccer tournaments and play softball games.
