A socially active neighborhood
Each summer, Homewood shuts down one of its streets for the neighborhood block party. Residents carry homemade dishes to lay out on plastic folding tables, and children get to climb up on firetrucks as they blare their sirens. Realtor Paul Livingston, who has lived in the neighborhood for 12 years and sells homes there with Hunziker & Associates, says the neighborhood has a vibrant social atmosphere year-round. “People are always out walking and talking to each other in the evenings. That’s how I got to meet many of my neighbors,” Livingston says. In addition to its strong community spirit, the neighborhood draws homebuyers because it is within walking distance of a public golf course and several parks.
Tennis courts at Inis Grove Park are a great spot for Homewood residents to stay active.

Ranch styles, split-levels and bi-level homes
Old-growth trees shade Homewood’s winding streets, which are lined with sidewalks and streetlamps, and the terrain has gently sloping hills. The lawns are well-kept, and wooden or chain-link fences often enclose backyards. The neighborhood was developed in the 1950s and ‘60s and is made up of ranch styles, split-levels and bi-levels priced from $280,000 to $465,000. “When it was developed, a variety of builders were involved, so it’s not cookie cutter. I don’t see any repeated designs,” Livingston says.
Homewood’s ranch homes provide spacious yards perfect for outdoor fun.
Split-level homes in Homewood provide flexible spaces for today’s modern families.

Homewood Municipal Golf Course and North River Valley Park
On the neighborhood’s north end, just off East 20th Street, a paved trail takes residents to Homewood Municipal Golf Course, which has nine holes. “It’s a little gem,” Livingston says. “Because it’s not a long course, it appeals to a variety of people, from beginners to older folks.” Carr Park and North River Valley Park border one another immediately southeast of the neighborhood, and they can be accessed using a paved trail that branches off Meadowlane Avenue. Carr Park connects hikers and cyclists to Skunk River Trail, which runs along Skunk River, which was carved out by the drainage from melting glaciers about 12,000 years ago. People paddle the river and fish for smallmouth bass, catfish and bluegill. North River Valley Park has six baseball diamonds, four soccer fields, two open-air shelters and several sand volleyball courts. In the winter, there are two portable ice rinks, one for figure skating and the other for hockey.
Golfers of all ages enjoy the 9-hole course right in the Homewood neighborhood.
