The Ames suburb of Northridge is known for its sought-after New Traditional homes, paved bike paths and walkable access to a public green space on Ioway Creek. Farther south, Veenker Memorial Golf Course is open to the public. Within the Northridge and its surrounding neighborhoods, there are several fishing ponds. "I used to fish in the ponds all the time while I lived in the area," Livingston says. "There were plenty of crappie and bass, and I even caught a catfish once."

Ames High School's new building was completed in 2022
Fellows Elementary has an A rating, and Ames Middle has a B rating. Teens ultimately move on to Ames High, which opened its new $137 million building in 2022 and has an A-minus rating. The math and reading proficiencies of all three schools rank above state and national averages.

Thousands attend Iowa State University's football and basketball games
About 10 minutes away, Iowa State University offers several entertainment options. The college's Big 12 teams play football at Jack Trice Stadium and basketball at Hilton Coliseum, drawing tens of thousands of fans. Additional entertainment can be found east of the college in the Ames Main Street Historic District, which is lined with brick buildings filled with restaurants and local shops.
