Taku/Campbell’s mixed architectural styles
This community features a mix of established homes of different architectural styles, including split levels, modern craftsmen and traditional ramblers, many of which have raised porches and built-in garages. In addition, condos and townhouses can be found throughout the neighborhood. Single-family homes here sell for between $150,000 for an established home and $650,000 for a new build, while townhomes and condos go for anywhere between $100,000 and $500,000. Tall evergreens and quaking aspens decorate the neighborhood, and short, wide driveways connect lots directly to roads in most areas, although a few streets feature paved sidewalks as well.

The final step is West Anchorage High School, which holds an A-minus Niche rating. In addition to the school's rigorous, college-centered curriculum, the school also offers Spanish and Russian language immersion programs to help students achieve fluency more quickly.

Taku Lake and Campbell Creek
Taku/Campbell's namesake water features, Taku Lake and Campbell Creek, are at the heart of this community. A section of the Campbell Creek Trail runs through the neighborhood, inviting residents to enjoy the scenery while they walk or bike. For an all-day adventure, locals trek the Campbell Creek Trail, starting at the trailhead near East 72nd Avenue. Wolverine Park has a playground and sits alongside a large field and wooded area, perfect for running and exploring. Across the neighborhood's eastern edge, Campbell Creek Playground is a local favorite for spending an afternoon relaxing under shady evergreen trees or letting kids play at the recently renovated playground.

Shopping at Diamond Center
With close proximity to ample retail options and downtown Anchorage, residents have found that living here comes with a plethora of benefits. "It's a super desirable area because it's so convenient to downtown and Anchorage's main retail centers," says Realtor Sandra Nunes with RE/MAX Dynamic Realty. In the neighborhood's southeast corner, residents shop at Diamond Center, a family-owned shopping center that features a bowling alley, ice rink and movie theater. The mall also features Anchorage market, the largest open-air market in the state. Every summer, locals visit the market to pick up fresh produce from local vendors and a quick bite from food trucks. For date night, Taku/Campbell residents grab dinner at reHARU Sushi. On weekends, many locals head to the Anchorage Brewing Company to grab fresh, frosty craft beer.

Fireworks for the 4th in Downtown Anchorage
Since there are not many community events within Taku/Campbell, Warren says that locals tend to visit adjacent neighborhoods to attend events. “There’s a firework show every 4th or July and New Year in downtown Anchorage that everybody goes to,” says Warren. Residents can also head west to Sand Lake every February to attend Jewel Lake Jamboree, a free annual ice fishing event. They can also participate in the Spring Duathlon Series, a mid-spring, family-friendly race where neighbors fight to the finish line.

Public transportation is hard to access in Taku/Cambell, with the only option being Anchorage’s People Mover routes 35 and 85. Sidewalks are far and few, so many residents drive or bike to get around. The neighborhood’s central location puts it between Walter J. Hickel Parkway (also known as Minnesota Drive) and Seward Highway, two major commuting points, making it easy for locals to get to more dense areas, like Downtown Anchorage. Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport is about 5 miles west of Taku/Campbell, making travel easy for locals.

I never see the police. We did have a teenager that was a trouble maker and the police would come in the neighborhood to check on him years ago. I haven't seen him around and we rarely ever get cops in the neighborhood.
