Harrisburg is a historic mill village close to Augusta
Once the site of a buzzing 1800s mill village along the Augusta Canal, locals say the neighborhood of Harrisburg is where historic charm meets modern convenience. “Harrisburg definitely has a lot of character and it's close to downtown,” says Anna-Marie Boykin, a Realtor with Southeastern Residential. “There's a big revitalization effort going on there right now. The homes are very charming, but a lot of them hadn’t been kept up. Investors are coming in and modernizing them.”
Harrisburg sits along the edge of the canal and the Savannah River.
Purchased by the city in 2010 to be preserved, the King's Mill is now a landmark of Harrisburg.

Craftsman bungalows dating to the early 20th century
Located less than 5 miles from downtown Augusta, those looking to move to Harrisburg will find a many early-1900s bungalows, primarily in the Craftsman styles. Some still feature original characteristics such as stained-glass windows, fireplaces and clawfoot bathtubs. They typically range in size from 1,000 to 2,000 square feet and rest on small lots of one-tenth of an acre. “Harrisburg is a great place for anyone looking for an affordable home that’s close to downtown,” Boykin says. “You can get a house that’s been renovated, for not a lot of money. It’s an up-and-upcoming neighborhood.” Prices here often range anywhere from less than $100,000 to $250,000, depending on whether a house has been renovated. “The average time on the market is 64 days, but it really just depends,” Boykin says. “Something distressed might go quickly because investors want to swoop in and renovate it and flip it. So, it could be few days, or it could be multiple weeks.”
