The fierce dragon is not just the mascot for John M. Tutt Middle School. It is also an acronym for the school’s mission: Developing Rigorous Academic Growth and Opportunity Necessary for Success. The sixth through eighth graders here are performing at least 10 percent higher than other schools across the states. The school bears the name of John McClinton Tutt, who taught and coached for more than 50 years. His commitment to excellence is still evident in the school’s varied range of curriculum and willingness to partner with outside organizations like Verizon to ensure students have the latest technology for STEM-focused programs. Most students at Tutt have moved up nearby A. Brian Merry Elementary School and will go on to attend Westside High School only a few miles away. Middle schoolers here can participate in extracurricular activities such as sports and FBLA, while eight graders will get the chance to learn about their high school journey at Westside High School Orientation and potential career paths through Virtual Career Day. Tutt Middle provides a solid foundation for students to grow and prepare for the next stage in their scholastic careers.

The principal and assistant principal are extremely rude & talk to the students like they’re inmates. You can’t get in contact with teachers & they do not take bullying seriously. I do not recommend this school. The students run this school.

I'm beyond happy with the way this school is run and how the staff go above and beyond to, not only provide a safe, disciplined environment for my child, but the way they listen to the students/parents concerns, needs, and problems with an attentiveness that is nearly impossible to find these days....
