When searching, homebuyers often compare Midtown to Summerville, where the median sale price is around $270,000, as well as to Highland Park, at around $190,000, and Forest Hills, at around $370,000.

As its name suggests, Midtown puts residents close to key destinations and major employers throughout Augusta. “It’s a very convenient place to live,” Trulock says. “You’re right in the middle of everything. You’re not too far from grocery stores, nightlife, whatever you need.” From Midtown, you can reach:

  • Paine University in roughly a mile
  • The city’s medical district, which includes nationally recognized hospitals, research centers and the Medical College of Georgia, in about a mile
  • Augusta University in about 2 miles
  • Downtown Augusta, with dining, entertainment and employment centers, in approximately 3 miles
  • Fort Eisenhower in roughly 10 miles

Exploring public school choice in Richmond County

The Richmond County School System serves Midtown. The district has several school choice pathways, including four competitive magnet schools with admissions determined by a district-administered math and reading assessment, grades, conduct and attendance. Families can also apply to specialty programs or for in-district transfers. The Academy of Richmond County is the fifth-oldest high school in the United States, where George Washington gave the commencement address in 1791, and it’s located in Midtown. Students can pursue Advanced Placement courses, an International Baccalaureate Programme and a gifted and talented education program.

Where Midtown residents can shop and dine

Midtown Augusta has a solid mix of local restaurants and coffee shops, with additional options in nearby Downtown Augusta. You can grab a bite at Midtown Tavern, a neighborhood bar and grill with gourmet burgers and craft cocktails; Buona Caffe Artisan Roasted Coffee, a local roaster serving house blends and baked goods; or Los Cabos Mexican Restaurant Bar & Grill, which dishes out favorites like tacos and enchiladas. Summerville, just west, provides even more local dining options, and everyday errands can be handled within a short drive. In the Forest Hills neighborhood, the David Village shopping center features Food Lion and Walgreens, while Surrey Center, located in West Augusta, is known for its upscale shopping and dining options. Augusta Mall, in North Leg, includes more than 100 retailers; it’s located along Wrightsboro Road, which is lined with big-box stores and well-known eateries.

Getting around Midtown Augusta

Major thoroughfares, including Wrightsboro Road and Walton Way, run through Midtown, and the neighborhood has easy access to Washington Road and 15th Street, with interstates 20 and 520 a short drive away. Augusta Regional Airport is about 10 miles south, while Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport in Savannah is about 120 miles southeast, and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in Atlanta is about 150 miles west.
