Proximity to Fort Gordon in Windsor Spring
Locals are never off-base in the Windsor Spring area. The 55,000-acre Fort Gordon military base is strategically positioned right next to this suburban enclave of South Augusta. Home of the United States Army Signal Corps and Cyber Center of Excellence, Fort Gordon is Augusta’s largest employer with more than 25,000 military and civilian employees. “The biggest draw to that area is that it’s so close to Fort Gordon,” says Ramona Murray, a Realtor with VanderMorgan Realty. “It’s two to five miles from Fort Gordon. If you work there, it’s a good place to be.”
Late 20th-century homes line Augusta's rolling hills
The area’s rolling hills feature a wealth of split-levels and brick ranch-style homes primarily built in the 1970s and 1980s. They typically offer 1,500 square feet of living space and rest on lots approaching a-quarter acre with mature pine and maple trees that are common to the area. “You get more land out there for your money,” Murray says. “In the newer developments, the lots are smaller. This is a more established area.” The average list price hovers around $165,000. “Things are selling pretty quickly in this area,” Murray says. “If you see something on the market, it’s typically gone within 30 days.”
Richmond County Schools serves Windsor Spring
Public school students may attend schools such as Jamestown Elementary School, Glenn Hills Middle School and Glenn Hills High School. As part of the Richmond County School System, students at all three schools have access to free one-on-one online tutoring services. All three schools have C-minus ratings with Niche.

Windsor Spring area residents have access to plenty of nationally known chain stores, as well as independent options to choose from. For dining out in the area, try Seleste’s Authentic Kitchen & Catering for soul food favorites. A mainstay for more than 20 years, Dennis’ Barbeque is the go-to spot for fall-off-the-bone ribs, collard greens and macaroni and cheese. A wider variety of shopping and dining options can be found at Augusta Mall, which is less than 10 miles away. Undergo retail therapy at Macy’s department store, pick up the latest best-seller at Barnes & Noble or meet friends for dinner at P.F. Chang’s Chinese bistro.
Recreation at Woodlake Park and Meadowbrook Park
Outdoor fun awaits at Woodlake Park, where visitors can frolic on the playground or have a picnic lunch under the pavilion. Meadowbrook Park offers a paved trail popular with dog walkers and joggers alike.
The James Brown Arena and Miller Theater host live performances
For more entertainment options, downtown Augusta is just 10 miles away. Popular pastimes include catching a music concert at the James Brown Arena or the more intimate Miller Theater, a restored 1940 movie palace. Many locals spend their Saturdays supporting area artisans and food vendors at the Augusta Market, which runs from March to November at 8th Street Plaza along the Savannah River.
