Secluded mountain community with hiking opportunities
Winding throughout the Fourmile Creek Valley, Crisman is a remote neighborhood of dirt roads dotted with custom homes and outdoor recreation. “Folks that live up there want to live off the grid and have that mountain lifestyle,” says Matthew Tomlan, a broker associate with Milehimodern who has sold in the neighborhood. “You don’t really have neighbors, and there’s elbow room to move around.” Homes are separated by acres of private land that contribute to the area’s seclusion. Several hiking trails are accessible in the neighborhood, which wind up into the surrounding mountains.

Boulder Canyon Drive is the main thoroughfare in and out of Crisman to Boulder.
The country roads in Crisman
The roads in Crisman are primarily dirt paths that branch off from Four Mile Canyon Drive, the main thoroughfare that connects to Boulder Canyon Drive leading into the city. “You have to drive up these switchback roads to get to your property,” Tomlan says. Since Crisman is located along a valley between two mountains, there’s an emergency escape route that winds through the area – though it’s closed in the winter. While the neighborhood itself is car-dependent, there is one RTD bus route called “Gold Hill Climb” that has a stop at Crisman’s entrance on Logan Mile Road.
The Fourmile Fire Protection District is only 2 miles from the neighborhood for an emergency.
Potential risks of mountain living
With Crisman’s natural valley landscape, the neighborhood may be susceptible to environmental challenges. Fourmile Creek puts the area at a potential risk for flooding. Throughout Crisman’s history, there have only been two floods that have caused property damage, which is why there are flood risk reduction initiatives in place, such as levees and floodwalls. Additionally, the surrounding forestry and vegetation may also put Crisman at a potential risk of wildfire. The Fourmile Fire Protection District is only 2 miles from the neighborhood in case of an emergency.
