Sherwood Forest
Homes span from midcentury to today
This mid-century neighborhood's architecture is predominantly ranch-style and split-level, perched on scenic hilltops and settling within valleys of uneven terrain. The community also features new construction houses and townhomes. "The area has a strong market with a massive pool of buyers and a shortage of inventory," Barker says. Sherwood Forest home values range from $496,000 to $2.7 million. For $550,000, a buyer can get a 4-bedroom townhome. A 5-bedroom house on 1/2 acre costs $2.5 million. "If priced at market value, homes here sell within the first couple of days," he says. Sprawling lot sizes start at ¼ acre, large enough for a pool or a play area.High school offers AP and IB classes
The neighborhood's public schools are served by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School District. Students can start their education at Rama Road Elementary, a STEM school that has a C-plus from Niche. Alexander Graham Middle School has a B-plus grade from Niche. East Mecklenburg High School has a B-plus grade from Niche and offers advanced placement classes and an International Baccalaureate (IB) program.Community features a skatepark
Tucked behind the elementary school is Rama Road Park, which offers whimsical play areas, benches and a large picnic shelter. A popular recreation destination is Naomi Drenan Recreation Center, which has a gymnasium, multipurpose rooms and a multipurpose field. Grayson Skatepark and Grayson Park can be found outside the rec center.Shopping and dining just a 2-mile drive
Cotswold Village is less than a 2-mile drive on local streets and features 30 plus retailers, including a Teeter Harris for grocery shopping. This center's major chain stores and restaurants include Marshalls, Cost Plus World Market, Crumbl Cookies, Starbucks and Panera. "The Strawberry Hill strip has been totally rejuvenated with great restaurants and is very accessible to Sherwood Forest locals," says Barker, who recommends visiting Aqua e Vino, which serves authentic Italian cuisine. Another local favorite is Eddies Place, just west of Cotswold Village. The casual neighborhood mainstay has been serving New Orleans-inspired cuisine for over 20 years. Sherwood Forest is about a 6-mile drive to Charlotte's arts district, historic district and the vibrant Plaza Midwood area.Easy access to Uptown Charlotte
An 8-mile drive on Interstate 74 takes residents to Uptown Charlotte, though many locals opt for a ride along Randolph Road to bypass highway traffic. The Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) operates local and express bus routes with stops running along Sharon Amity and Randolph Roads.
