Starmount offers midcentury charm and South Charlotte perks

Starmount is a South Charlotte neighborhood known for its midcentury homes on spacious lots. It offers lower home prices than other communities in this area while still providing the same perks. Residents are just minutes from SouthPark and the Lower South End for shopping, dining and entertainment. Plus, you can have a car-free commute to Uptown with light rail access, bus stops and the Little Sugar Creek Greenway. Highly rated public schools and magnet options, as well as nearby parks and sports clubs, add to Starmount’s suburban yet close-in appeal.

Renovated midcentury styles on roomy lots and newer transitionals

Starmount’s single-family homes. primarily ranch-style and split-level homes from the 1950s and 1960s, line wide, gently curving streets with and without sidewalks. “A lot of people are coming in to live in and renovate them or flip them,” says Alexa Jordan, a Realtor with eXp Realty Mooresville. She adds that while these homes are often under 2,500 square feet, they sit on larger lots that can range in size to up to half an acre. There are also transitional designs from the 2010s that offer more living space but with smaller yards. If you’re looking for a townhouse or condo, there’s the gated Park South Station community, which features two-, three- and four-bedroom units, as well as a community pool, clubhouse, dog park and playground.

Lower home prices than other SouthPark area neighborhoods

The neighborhood’s median sale price is around $470,000, slightly above Charlotte ’s median. “This is definitely a growing area. You’re just outside of the [Center] City. So, you have better square footage for the price,” says Jordan, who considers Starmount a hidden gem. “If you can find the right home and get it at a great price, you’ll have that opportunity for appreciation.” Here’s how home prices break down by type:

  • Detached homes start in the lower $300,000s and can reach the lower $700,000s.
  • Townhouses range from the mid-$300,000s to the upper $500,000s.
  • Condos rarely go on the market, with just one unit sold in recent years in the upper $300,000s.
Home prices tend to be much higher in neighborhoods closer to SouthPark Mall, such as Quail Hollow, Beverly Woods and Madison Park. Aside from the Park South Station subdivision, there’s no homeowners association in Starmount, which is a draw for many buyers, according to Jordan.
