Close-knit Crestwood
A small neighborhood in the suburbs of Concord, Crestwood offers a destination for homebuyers looking to settle down and join a thriving community. “Concord is very family oriented, very lively,” says Eli Kuo, a Realtor with Keller Williams Realty who has been selling in the Bay Area since 2005. “When people in San Francisco start to have kids, they move out to Concord, where there are resources for kids like after-school sports and community activities.” The city offers a basketball league and summer camps for children and young teenagers. Adults aren’t left out of the fun – they can sign up for flag football leagues and stop-motion animation classes in this active community.
Rows of ranch-homes
Ranch homes line the streets, and prices range from $750,000 to $950,000, which is low for the Bay Area according to Kuo. "Below a million is considered within reach for people in the Bay Area." Aesthetics vary, some with craftsmen influenced design, others with Mediterranean-style roofs and facades, but almost every home in Crestwood is some spin on ranch-style. Some are modified with mother-in-law suites above the garage, and almost all of them have rectangular front yards with green grass, shrubs and a couple of trees.
Mount Diablo Unified School District
The area is served by the Mount Diablo Unified School District, which has a B-plus rating on Niche. Westwood Elementary has a C-minus rating and El Dorado Middle School earns a C rating. Concord High School has a B-plus rating and a variety of activities available for students like Spikeball, chess and LGBTQ+ Inclusionary clubs.
Transportation
There isn’t public transportation in Crestwood, so cars are required to get around the area. The nearest major roadway is Ygnacio Valley Road, which is less than five miles away and leads to downtown Oakland and San Francisco. For international travel, the Oakland International Airport is about 35 miles away.
Community-driven parks
Crestwood is close to parks that are often used for youth and adult sports leagues. The Concord Community Pool and Park is where kids go to summer camp, sign up for the swim team and run around the grassy park playing freeze tag. While the community gathers at the park, people can find solace and seclusion on the slopes of Mount Diablo. The trails that wind through the slopes of Mount Diablo are about eight miles away. Hikers head here on clear days to explore the wilderness and find a vantage point to take in a view of the region. Community and solitude are both easy to find outside in Concord.
Sunvalley Shopping Center
The Sunvalley Shopping Center is one of Concord’s big draws, and people in Crestwood and other neighborhoods often mingle at this mall. “The mall is one of the ways people interact with each other in Concord,” says Kuo. There are outdoor seating areas for people to gather, a bowling alley to throw strikes or gutter balls, and a bounce house where the kids can tire themselves out. Sunvalley is about five miles from Crestwood. For shopping closer to home, there are a few small shopping centers with fast casual restaurants and chain retailers are scattered up and down Clayton Road, which is just outside Crestwood.
Festivals on the weekends
People get together in Crestwood on the regular, thanks to places like the Concord Community Pool, the Sun Valley Shopping Center and regular city events. “There are festivals every weekend over the summer,” says Kuo. The Stone Soul Concert comes to the Toyota Pavilion at Concord every June, which is about two miles from Crestwood. There’s also a farmers market every Thursday in downtown Concord from June to September.
GreatSchools:
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
