At the base of the San Gabriel mountains is Charter Oak, a Los Angeles bedroom community that grew into itself after World War II. While he was hiding, Antonio overheard the captain below him say, “Verily this oak tree is like the Charter Oak,” referring to a historical white oak tree in Connecticut. That’s how the neighborhood got its name.
