East Rancho Dominguez, also known as East Compton, is a busy, urban community in a densely populated area south of downtown Los Angeles. It’s surrounded by the city of Compton, and is just a few blocks from a major freeway, making it well suited for commuting. “It has a strong sense of community, and people really take pride in ownership of their homes. There are a lot of families who have been there a long time,” says Realtor Sheena Pratt of Wedgewood Homes Realty, who has been working in the area for about five years.

Homes in East Rancho Dominguez range from 1940s and 1950s bungalows to Spanish Revival homes set on modest, well-manicured lawns. Although many homes have garages, street parking is common here. Lot sizes are typically small, and some have privacy fencing, but there’s still plenty of space for landscaping or gardening. Prices range from around $550,000 to $750,000. “There are a lot of Spanish-style bungalows here, which people love, and it’s still relatively affordable compared to the rest of LA,” Pratt says.

In the heart of the neighborhood is East Rancho Dominguez Park, a busy, five-acre space that is best known as the place Venus and Serena Williams learned to play tennis. Students go to Compton public schools
Students here are served by the Compton Unified School District. The district has implemented a STEM focus throughout all its schools for students with an interest in science and technology. Roosevelt Elementary School serves students in kindergarten through eighth grade and gets a C rating from Niche. The school offers a grant-funded program through which students can receive tutoring services, project-based enrichment and homework assistance.
