A Weld County small town with a community-oriented atmosphere
Along the northern banks of the South Platte River, just south of Greeley, the small city of Evans is a quaint, rural community in Weld County, Colorado. The snowy peaks of the Rocky Mountains can be seen in the distant west, with the national park around 55 miles away. Named after John Evans, the second governor of Colorado, the city began as a railroad town along the Denver Pacific Railroad, producing agricultural supplies in its early days.
Today, Evans is home to around 22,000 people. “Evans maintains a small-town feel,” says Caitlyn Heisel, a local Realtor with Adventure Realty. “When you’re going out to eat, it's mostly mom-and-pop shops and locally run businesses, and residents like to support local spots.”
Some prominent industries in Evans include agriculture, manufacturing, healthcare, construction and oil production, with major employers such as PDC Energy and Atmos Energy. Additionally, Evans is closely linked to Greeley, with shared public transit and schools.

Shopping options in Evans include big box stores like Sam’s Club and Lowe’s, with a larger selection at the University Square shopping center on the south side of Greeley. “People like how quiet Evans is compared to Greeley,” Heisel says. “You have all of the amenities of Greeley within a 10-minute drive, but the lines in Evans are shorter and there’s less traffic. There are also a few small Latino markets.” For more shops and eateries, Downtown Greeley’s Ninth Street has offerings ranging from diners to big-box stores and art studios to boutiques.
