A place where history and vision comingle, the Grand Central neighborhood is primarily a blend of commercial and retail sectors, with a small residential portion. Home of DreamWorks Animation and Walt Disney Imagineering headquarters, as well as Disney’s larger Grand Central Creative Campus, the neighborhood also holds the last intact original building associated with the San Fernando Valley’s Golden Age of aviation.

Home styles in Grand Central include upgraded 1940s cottages, renovated 1930s brick and stucco bungalows, homes with Spanish-style detailing, pastel stucco ranchers and contemporary two-story homes.

Since its grand opening in 2012, Grand Central residents can easily hop on a scenic hiking and biking trail at the Glendale Narrows Riverwalk, which also features an equestrian facility.

Locals also enjoy the nearly 3-acre Griffith Manor Park, a public green space on the northern end with picnic shelters and play areas.

While there are no public or private schools within the Grand Central neighborhood boundary, residents can reach the nearby public Balboa Elementary, Eleanor J. Toll Middle and Herbert Hoover High schools within minutes.

The Grand Central Airport, renovated into the Grand Central Air Terminal Museum, is now a Glendale Historical Landmark and well worth a visit. Small tours are available for viewing displays on loan from various airlines, including maps and vintage attendant outfits.

A relatively new coffee shop, Little Ground, welcomes locals for specialty beverages, in-house baked goods and homemade kimchi fried rice.

In 2015, Glendale’s first microbrewery, the Brewyard Beer Company, opened here in a converted warehouse. Visitors can view the crafting process and enjoy brews on the patio that feature Filipino and Japanese ingredients.

Home Depot is convenient in Grand Central, as well as grocery shopping at Super King Markets on San Fernando Road.

GreatSchools: The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
