A peaceful community almost paused in time
In northeast Indianapolis, the quiet residential community of Devon stands out from surrounding neighborhoods. The neighborhood is known for its stunning collection of mid-century ranches and mid-century modern homes, which sit on large lots surrounded by trees. The tradeoff for being about 8 miles from downtown is the peaceful surroundings, relative seclusion, and perhaps even a sense of nostalgia. The slow pace is conducive to kids riding their bikes to the local pool on summer afternoons, and residents pushing strollers or walking their pups in the evenings.

Midcentury stunners and lakeside options
The unique architectural styles of homes in the Devon neighborhood are a selling point for homebuyers. "Devon is a mecca for mid-century and mid-century modern homes," says Kelly Huff, an associate broker with Huff Homes who has sold several homes in the neighborhood. Most houses are on large lots close to half an acre; mature trees offer privacy. Though few streets have sidewalks, the quiet residential streets invite minimal traffic. Move-in-ready homes range from around $200,000 to $530,000. A small subdivision of newer homes, built in the 1990s, backs up to Lake Mallard on tighter-spaced lots; homes here run around $500,000 to $530,000.
