Fletcher Place is a social, walkable community with popular eateries
Fletcher Place has a great culinary scene and walkability in downtown Indianapolis. This trendy neighborhood is dotted with murals and has a blend of young adults, families and longtime residents. The Cultural Trail runs through the neighborhood, making it easy to get around town, and you’re close to major employers like Lilly, Elevance Health and Farm Bureau Insurance. There are tons of events and ways to get connected, whether it’s through the neighborhood bocce ball league or the annual Italian Street Festival. Fletcher Place has some of the best restaurants in Indy, but if you can’t find what you want in the neighborhood, a short walk to neighboring Fountain Square is sure to have you covered.

A mix of standout eateries, bars and breweries to explore
Fletcher Place has some of the best coffee shops, bars and restaurants in the city. Two stand-outs are Milktooth and Bluebeard. Milktooth has upscale diner vibes and a spacious patio, while Bluebeard is fine dining restaurant offering farm-to-table fare. It’s attached to Amelia’s, an artisanal bakery known for its fresh bread. You can grab lattes at Calvin Fletcher’s Coffee Company and Amberson Coffee & Grocer. If you’re looking for a night on the town, you can go to spots like:
Tappers Arcade Bar, a 21-and-over bar with free-to-play arcade games and pinball
Chilly Water Brewing, a local brewery on the first floor of an apartment complex
Metazoa Brewing Company, one of Indy’s most dog-friendly establishments with its own dog park
Hotel Tango, a distillery known for its whiskey and vodka
Four Dinger Distillery, which has a laundry list of spirits ranging from gin to absinthe
The Dugout, a chill spot for beer and live music
Fountain Square has even more options just a few blocks away. “Fountain Square is funky, electric, young,” says Laura Waters, a Fletcher Place resident and Realtor with EasyStreet Realty. “Fletcher Place is the older, more mature sibling.”

Easy commutes with bike trails, bus stops and highway access
Residents in Fletcher Place and Fountain Square added safety measures to the bridge over Interstate 70 and I-65 in 2025. New mural-covered street barriers reduced traffic to one lane and opened up room for pedestrians and bikers. People use the Cultural Trail to commute around Indy, and the 27-mile Monon Trail adds extra convenience about a mile north. Drivers are just a few blocks from I-70, but you can also take an IndyGo bus to get around. Major employers like Lilly, Elevance Health and Farm Bureau Insurance are within a mile of most homes.

Victorians, bungalows and condos offer a wide range of prices
Stylish homes from the Victorian era sit on compact lots and shady streets. You’ll mostly find bungalows, cottages, Victorians and Italianate homes with detached garages in the back. Street parking is also common and select streets have permit parking for residents. New condos are available, but there’s also historic options in former churches, schools and factories. Homes north of Virginia Avenue are part of a historic preservation district, so any exterior changes need to be approved by the city’s historic preservation commission. Houses typically range from the low $200,000s to the high $500,000s, but a handful of new luxury homes on East Street start at $1.5 million and can reach $2 million. Condos start in the low $200,000s and top out around $700,000.

Local parks and the Cultural Trail offer plenty of fresh air
Edna Balz Lacy Park — or just Lacy Park to locals — is the go-to spot for getting outdoors. It has downtown Indy’s only sand volleyball court, plus a playground and an open field perfect for playing fetch with your pup. An overgrown green space between two buildings on Virginia Avenue was transformed into The Recess, a pocket park and new hang-out spot. Impink notes that the Cultural Trail is a huge asset for the neighborhood. “All my kids have learned how to ride bikes out on the Cultural Trail,” he says. You’re also a short walk from Gainbridge Fieldhouse and Lucas Oil Stadium.

Events and the annual Italian festival brings folks together
Impink says one of the first ways he got involved in the community was the neighborhood bocce ball league that meets at Lacy Park. “We met a lot of our neighbors that way,” he says. “It’s been a wonderful way to get really well connected.” The neighborhood has plenty of events like fall movie nights at The Recess and an annual picnic, but Holy Rosary’s annual Italian Street Festival is a highlight. The free event brings food, live music and demonstrations from the Italian Heritage Society of Indiana to Lacy Park every June.
Families have public and private school options
Indianapolis Public Schools has an open choice system where kids can apply for magnet schools and specialized programs. A lottery system determines admissions. “My kids go to Center for Inquiry at School No. 2 which is an IPS school near Chatham Arch, so most of the kids I know in the neighborhood go to that school,” Impink says. The private Lumen Christi Catholic School and High School is in the center of the neighborhood.
