Cozy corner next to highways
Named for its triangular layout formed by major roads, Coolidge Triangle is a cozy corner of north Long Beach wedged between Interstate 710 and State Route 91. Proximity to freeways is one of the neighborhood's main selling points, according to Airazulema Alfaro, a Realtor with Keller Williams SELA. "You can jump on the 710 and go straight to the beach," she says. You'll reach City Beach within an 8-mile drive.
Aside from a few remaining businesses on Long Beach Boulevard, the neighborhood is acutely residential, made up of homes with small front yards.

Midcentury suburban homes
Builds range from the 1920s through the '40s and include bungalows in various styles. Two- to three-bedroom models are typically priced from $600,000 to $725,000 and offer 900 to 1,500 square feet. Once you find the home you want, the only problem is beating out the competition. Alfaro says, "We listed a house, and as soon as it went on the market, we had 13 offers, all of them over asking price."
Carlos Valdez, former president of the Coolidge Triangle Neighborhood Association and an alumnus of the City of Long Beach Neighborhood Leadership Program, has lived here for nearly 20 years. Though he says there's been some neglect over the past decade, he’s enthusiastic about the neighborhood's future: “Overall, the community is still very vibrant and very engaged; about 90% of residents are in the neighborhood association." He says that community members rally together for important causes and have high expectations for effective council leadership. "Any leader will recognize the deeper needs of the community, ideally supporting and reopening small businesses on Long Beach Boulevard,” he says.
As time goes on, Coolidge Triangle continues to retain dedicated residents. "The people who live here have been here for a long time; there's not a high turnover rate," Valdez says. He describes it as a quiet bedroom community where neighbors look out for each other, and spending time outside is a normal daily activity. “You still see kids riding bikes, playing basketball at night. I see people walking their dogs at different hours of the day, even at night and in the early morning.”
