The Starr King neighborhood is part of the Long Beach Unified School District, which is highly rated by Niche. Starr King Elementary School is in the neighborhood, rated B-minus. It's close enough that some students might walk to class. After high school, graduates might head to one of the nearby campuses of California State University: Long Beach or Dominguez Hills, which Cin says, "are both only about a 20-minute drive from the neighborhood."

Where to go for outdoor time near Starr King
Residents have to go outside the neighborhood to enjoy parks, and there are a few options nearby. Coolidge Park has a dog park and baseball diamond near the playground and paved athletic courts. DeForest Park, right across the river, is a popular spot with volleyball and pickleball courts, as well as a walking path that leads into the DeForest Wetlands. You can take a short drive south to Long Beach City Beach to spend the day on the sand.

"Residents will also drive to restaurants up and down Long Beach Boulevard and Atlantic Avenue near Virginia Country Club, where you'll find SteelCraft, and eateries from sushi to pizza." The nearby Gateway Towne Center is a convenient place to shop, from getting groceries at Aldi to grabbing everyday needs at Target.

How to get from Starr King to places like downtown Long Beach
You have easy access to the Gardena Freeway and Interstate 710. I-710 leads less than 10 miles to downtown Long Beach and almost 20 miles to downtown LA. Long Beach Transit and Los Angeles Metropolitan Transportation Authority bus services connect the neighborhood to local and regional stops. "You can hop on Long Beach Transit buses at stops along Long Beach Boulevard to reach shopping plazas and other area destinations," Cin says. "And while there's no major employer in the neighborhood, you have all the aerospace engineering employers around Long Beach Airport within 10 miles. Molina Healthcare's corporate offices are also here in Long Beach, about 8 miles south."
