Quiet, residential area in North Long Beach
Settled between Addams and DeForest Park in “Northtown,” as locals call North Long Beach, Dairy is a small community of older homes. “North Long Beach is one of the more affordable areas in the city,” says Alan Fasnacht, part owner and Broker of Team Fasnacht Realty. “It’s a large area, but each neighborhood is completely different and offers different value.” North Long Beach tends to be more laid back than southern Long Beach, which attracts tourists seeking out the city’s popular amenities like the Aquarium of the Pacific and the beach. While the entertainment districts are not too far from Dairy, the neighborhood is far enough removed to offer peace and quiet.
Bungalow homes in Dairy
“North Long Beach has older housing stock that’s very diverse,” says Fasnacht. Spanish-style architecture is common throughout Long Beach, and Dairy offers a colorful collection of homes whose stucco facades and terra cotta roofs stand out along its streets. “Like all big cities, it has nicer parts, like the neighborhoods around DeForest Park,” says Chanthol Pong, a real estate agent at Century 21 On Target who is familiar with the area. “The homes are older, so the neighborhood is established. Buyers who are interested in architecture gravitate toward this area.” The stock is mostly bungalows, built from the 1920s through the 1950s. Homes sell from $500,000 to $800,000.

Chace Park offers a small basketball court and multiple children’s play areas. Dairy is also just south of DeForest Park, a 50-acre park along the Los Angeles River. The park has tennis, pickleball, volleyball and basketball courts as well as a playground and picnicking areas. The park is also home to an extensive swathe of preserved wetlands. A trail goes through the wetlands, so visitors are able to see it up close.

The Long Beach Airport is a little over 5 miles south of Dairy.
Restaurants on Long Beach Boulevard and shopping on Atlantic Avenue
Long Beach Boulevard, a retail corridor lined by local and chain restaurants, runs through the neighborhood. Many Latin American restaurants operate here, like Los Eduardos, a cantina focusing on tacos and fajitas, and La Guanaquita, an El Salvadoran eatery. Dairy Market Restaurant, just off Long Beach Boulevard, serves Latin American dishes in a cozy setting. There's also Pho Daily and Douglas Burgers. There are a handful of local convenience stores in the neighborhood, such as Chilito’s Market, but for major shopping residents head a couple miles down Atlantic Avenue to Aldi’s, Smart and Final or Vons.
