Historic Wrigley area gains new popularity
Named after chewing gum magnate William Wrigley Jr., who began developing the Wrigley neighborhood in the 1920s, North Wrigley is one of the city’s oldest communities. However, new buyers are breathing new life into the area. “Even though prices have gone up dramatically, Long Beach is a bargain compared to the rest of the state, and prices are better in Long Beach than in Los Angeles,” says Alan Fasnacht of Team Fasnacht Realty, who has been selling in Long Beach since the 1990s. “Younger people are moving into the area because that’s what they can afford, and the prices reflect a little higher value.”
Neighborhood pride is evident throughout the neighborhood.

Older tract homes get modern updates
Most of the housing in North Wrigley consists of single-family homes built from the 1930s into the 1950s. “North Wrigley are tract homes,” explains Allison Van Wig, one of Long Beach’s top Realtors. “People like it because it’s a cheaper area than Bixby. You can still get beach breezes and tree-lined streets for under a million.” Many homes have been renovated and updated, with rooms added or even a second floor. Many feature Spanish-inspired details, like stucco siding and terra cotta tile roofs. “North Wrigley has a lot of older home stock,” says Fasnacht. “It’s a starter-home area, and always was. It’s always been a good neighborhood.”
These remodeled track homes start at $650,000. Homes with double the square footage and significant interior updates can sometimes exceed a million.

City Greenbelts and Veterans Park
Wrigley Greenbelt runs across the western border of the neighborhood. The city opened the Greenbelt in June 2023, allocating a multi-million dollar budget to replanting trees and conserving California plants and wildlife. The city is actively working to prune dead trees and replenish the population with living trees over the next few years. In the meantime, it's a green space near the neighborhood that’s become a popular walking trail. The neighborhood has a second Greenbelt, the Daisy Greenbelt, which runs up the middle of North Wrigley.
14-acre Veterans Park sits within the neighborhood. It offers more walking trail options and a playground for kids. A community center operates in the park, offering classes for kids and senior programming. It’s a popular neighborhood spot for picnicking or meeting up with friends for a game at one of the game courts.

Pho Long Beach offers authentic Vietnamese dishes. True to its name, England Fish & Chips serves fries and fried fish.

Wrigley Neighborhood Association hosts events
The Wrigley Neighborhood Association keeps the community busy. Neighbors get together for regular events like Turn Up Big for the Wrigs, a social event with drinks and games, and The Wrigley Comedy Chew, a free monthly stand-up performance hosted in a Wrigley backyard. Residents also host annual events like the Wrigley River Run and a holiday party. During the holidays, the cedar trees lining the Daisy Greenbelt are decorated.
