Laid back in south Long Beach
Saint Mary’s neighborhood is not as flashy as other south Long Beach communities, especially compared to adjacent, bustling Downtown, and that fact is a large part of its appeal. “It’s a low-key neighborhood, with some historic buildings,” says Long Beach Realtor Shannon Paul of Zaia Estates. “But its biggest selling point is definitely location. It has a more residential feel than Downtown Long Beach, but Downtown is literally next door.”

The area gets its name from St. Mary Medical Center, which operates in the middle of the neighborhood. The hospital provides comprehensive care, from emergency services to specialists in neurology, perinatal care and more. It employs more than 1,500 people and in 2022 saw more than 58,000 patients.

Anaheim Street Station and busy streets
“You’re close to a lot of things to do, and the freeway is close by, so it’s easy to get around,” says Esther Chun, Long Beach local and real estate agent at Y Realty. Saint Mary’s sidewalks and neat grid layout make it easy to get around on foot. Shopping, dining and public transit are within walking distance. Anaheim Street Station connects the neighborhood to the LA Metro A-Line, which runs from Downtown Long Beach to Downtown LA. The city bus also circulates in the neighborhood. Parking can be an issue, and the area is prone to congestion because of the hospital.
Seventh Street and Anaheim Street restaurants and shopping
Saint Mary’s urban landscape puts the city's diverse dining scene close at hand. The options span from Mexican food at places like Los Compadres and Baja Cali Fish and Tacos to Korean food at Sura Korean Barbecue and Tofu House or classic American at Blue Star Drive-In. Seventh Street and Anaheim Street are the main retail corridors so locals don’t have to go far to shop. A handful of convenience stores are nearby in addition to Superior Grocers and Smart and Final Extra.
Superior Grocers has a full service meat and fish counter.

Many homes have been divided into multifamily properties, selling from $500,000 to $1.5 million depending on the available units.
