Why people choose Mid-City

Buyers searching for a central, well-connected part of Los Angeles often zero in on Mid-City, a neighborhood that truly lives up to its name. Here, you’re close to some of the city’s biggest attractions, as well as being just minutes from Culver City and Beverly Hills.

Homes come in a variety of sizes and styles.

Mid-City's housing prices

The median sale price in Mid-City is approximately $1.25 million, which is above the citywide median. Compared with neighboring areas like Beverlywood and Pico-Robertson, however, Mid-City’s housing costs tend to come in much lower. You might find:

  • Fixer-uppers between the low $500,000s and low $800,000s
  • Bungalows and smaller Spanish-style homes between the mid-$800,000s and about $1.7 million
  • Larger houses and those with luxury finishes from roughly $2 million to just over $3.3 million
  • Townhouses between the upper $500,000s and nearly $1.3 million
  • Condos from the mid-$700,000s to around $1 million

Mid-City feels like several neighborhoods in one

“Mid-City encompasses a bunch of different little communities, which all have their own distinct flair,” says Alexander Masket, broker associate with Compass, Mid-City resident and LA native. “In Picfair Village, there are some quieter, tree-lined streets, but closer to Pico Boulevard, lots of multifamily properties are popping up.” Lafayette Square and Victoria Park, near Mid-City’s eastern edge, are known for their well-preserved Spanish Colonial Revivals and mature landscaping. Farther west, pockets like the Art District attract buyers looking for convenient access to Culver City’s tech jobs and the West Adams dining scene.

Families can also choose from charter schools, such as New Los Angeles Charter Middle School, as well as private options like the highly rated Turning Point School in Culver City.

Getting to DTLA, Culver City and more

“Mid-City is one of the few parts of Los Angeles where the name really explains the appeal,” Masket says. “You’re in the middle of everything.” Culver City is directly to the south, and you’re only about 5 miles or so from Beverly Hills and Hollywood. Interstate 10 provides a convenient link to Santa Monica and Downtown LA, both roughly 10 miles away, and La Cienega Boulevard is a popular route for getting to the Los Angeles Airport, a similar distance to the south. “Once you’re past Obama Boulevard, La Cienega is almost like a highway,” Masket says.
