Homes are a mix of ranch-style and contemporary designs
Midcentury ranch-style homes are common among the neighborhood’s older housing, but contemporary custom homes in a variety of sizes and styles make up the bulk of the housing options. Most homes, which offer driveways and attached garages, are found on truncated streets in subdivision settings. Streets are walkable, and cul-de-sacs offer additional privacy. Spacious front yards are common, and back yards tend to be wooded, with residential areas having been carved out of the natural landscape. Wooded areas and natural spaces provide a sound buffer between the Interstate 494 bypass and the closest homes. Prices range from around $300,000 to about $700,000.
Access to neighborhood parks and a nature preserve
Pleasantview Park and Applewood Park are neighborhood recreational spaces that offer a variety of amenities. Pleasantview is the larger of the two. It features athletic courts, an athletic field and a winter skating area. Applewood is home to a trail loop, a playground and a picnic area. Fish Creek Natural Area is a nature preserve on the neighborhood’s south side. The Fish Creek Greenway runs from nearby Carver Lake, which features a beach, to the Mississippi River in St. Paul. Between the neighborhood and the river is Pig’s Eye Lake, the featured attraction at Pig’s Eye Park. Once a landfill, it was transformed into a regional destination that also offers hiking trails and bird-watching spots. In addition, Maplewood is part of the Gateway State Trail, a multi-use rail trail that starts in St. Paul and runs through several suburbs.
Convenient retail center nearby; Mall of America 20 minutes away
