A diverse neighborhood 4 miles south of Minneapolis
Bryant is a densely packed and diverse neighborhood located in the greater Powderhorn Park community, just four miles south of downtown Minneapolis. The neighborhood is characterized by its earth-toned homes, young families and community-oriented activities. “I know that people really look out for each other there, and over the years, they’ve created this wonderful, caring group of residents,” says Clair Wagner, a lifelong Minnesota resident. Bryant is one of eight neighborhoods in the Powderhorn Park Neighborhood Association (PPNA), dedicated to housing and tenant rights. The collective also hosts events such as the Powderhorn Art Fair and Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration, both featuring live performances from local artists. Aside from its strong sense of community, Bryant’s proximity to the city and nearby amenities are other attractive elements for potential homebuyers. It is conveniently bordered by I-35W on the west and is close to several lakes and restaurants. “It doesn’t have direct lake access, but we’re talking city blocks away from Lake Harriet on the west and Lake Nokomis on the east,” says Patrick Paulson, a Realtor of over 35 years in the Twin Cities. “You’re definitely able to get around easily.”
An active and involved Neighborhood Organization
The Bryant Neighborhood Organization, partnered with the Powderhorn Park Organization, plays an active role in community listening and engagement. Many of the organization’s initiatives focus on providing access to fresh & healthy food, long-term housing, and addressing racial and economic inequalities for its residents. One of its most recent events is its partnership with Plant-Grow-Share, a grassroots collective dedicated to empowering residents to grow healthy produce and create more green spaces in Minneapolis. Christ The King Lutheran Church also offers a community garden, which residents can rent out for $20 a plot.
Lake Nokomis Parkway is accessible to Bryant residents via the extensive city trail system.

A blend of architectural styles
Most homes in this area were built between the 1900s to 1920s. According to Paulson, the homes here are what he describes as “Craftsman bungalows” which are some of the most common architectural styles in the neighborhood. “Most of these are one-and-a-half-story homes with porches. They’re kind of a distinct style: usually with two bedrooms and bath on the main floor, along with a living, dining, kitchen and the third bedroom upstairs.” Paulson adds that certain parts of the neighborhood are paved with sidewalks, which residents use to walk or bike. Homes start at $200,000 and go up to $450,000. While most houses are single-family, many have been converted into multi-family units to support the 30% of residents who are renters.

Locals may also visit Powderhorn Park, less than a 2-mile drive away. “It’s really nice, lots of people walking their dogs around and going out to the lake. There’s also events being held there all the time,” says Wagner. A couple of blocks away are Lake Harriet and Lake Nokomis, part of Minneapolis’s “chain lakes." These have a variety of watersport activities, such as kayaking, canoeing and sailing. They also offer recreation outside of the water, like paved trails for hiking and picnic areas.

The neighborhood is mostly quiet with families or long-term residents living here. The traffic has gotten worse with construction projects but that will improve upon project completion. There is a surprising amount of places to walk to in the neighborhood: restaurants, bars, convenience stores, cafes, grocery store, etc.
