Harrison is a residential area with a convenient location
Harrison is a residential community, one of six that make up the Near North region of Minneapolis. The area has lower home prices than downtown neighborhoods, and it’s a short commute to the business district. The supportive community has an active neighborhood association.
What homeowners often pay for single-family homes and duplexes
More than 70% of residents are renters, who often stay in one- to two-bedroom apartments. Homeowners usually live in Craftsman-style, American Foursquare and traditional houses built in the early 1900s, but infill development has also created some more modern homes. Constance Vork, a Realtor with Keller Wiliams Realty Integrity Lakes who lives nearby, says some neighborhood homes sit on double lots, making the area ideal for people who want a lot of space for gardening or other yard activities. “It’s a hodgepodge in terms of style,” Vork says. Single-family homes can range from the lower $100,000s to the upper $400,000s, while duplexes and other multi-family units commonly go from the upper $200,000s to the mid-$400,000s. The area’s prices tend to be on par with surrounding neighborhoods like Near North and Willard-Hay. An exception is Bryn Mawr, where homes are usually much more expensive.
Duplexes are an option for Harrison residents.

Commuting downtown is simple
The neighborhood is around a mile and a half from the city’s downtown business district. Residents can walk or bike down Glenwood Avenue to get there, but driving is more popular and takes just over 5 minutes in normal traffic. Metro Transit buses stop in the community, and a ride downtown takes between 10 and 20 minutes, depending on the route.
The area's handful of restaurants are beloved
The residential area does not have as many dining options as nearby North Loop, but the ones it does have are popular. You can head to Milda’s Cafe for homestyle comfort food, or Minne’s for several kinds of sliders and Chicago-style hot dogs. Utepils Brewing rotates the food trucks parked outside of its taproom and hosts trivia nights and card games. Animales Barbeque Co. Is known for its smoked meats, and it has an indoor play area for kids. One of Vork’s favorite regional spots is Tap In Kitchen & Cocktails in Cleveland, about 2.5 miles away. “It’s almost like a hobbit house,” Vork says. “It’s like being inside the Earth. There are dug-out portions with artwork and plants. It’s really cool, and it has great food.” As for groceries, there are options within a few miles like Cub Northside in Near North, Kowalski’s Market in East Isles and Lunds & Byerlys downtown.

Students are served by the Minneapolis Public School District
Students are zoned for the highly rated Minneapolis Public School District, but they can attend any school outside of that district thanks to the state’s open enrollment policy, as long as that school is not full. Nearby private academies like The Blake School are another option. There are also citywide magnet schools like Franklin STEAM Middle School that use enrollment lotteries.
