Ease of access in a park-like Minneapolis neighborhood
Kenwood is a popular Minneapolis neighborhood that is known far beyond the reaches of the city. Sitcom fans will recognize this Minneapolis community from the opening credits of the Mary Tyler Moore Show, while music fans know it was mentioned in the Prince song “Rock ‘N’ Roll is Alive!” Homebuyers who drive through the area will quickly see why it’s such a notable neighborhood. “Kenwood is a picturesque lakeside community right in the heart of downtown. It’s a perfectly convenient neighborhood in the heart of the city,” says Shane Spencer, a Realtor and luxury property specialist with Coldwell Banker. “Most of my clients love Kenwood because you get upscale, spacious homes and a neighborhood feel with real camaraderie.” Mature trees and meticulously cared-for lawns line the streets of Kenwood. Scenic parks surround the area, while the excitement of downtown is just a short drive away. Highways are located nearby but not within the neighborhood, giving residents a quiet community to come home to daily.

Homes in Kenwood include multiple styles, but some of the most common are Victorian, Colonial Revival and bungalows. Several homes throughout the neighborhood have large turret windows, including a sprawling Queen Anne home on Kenwood Parkway that was used for exterior shots in the Mary Tyler Moore Show. Many homes in the neighborhood are set back from the street with mature trees in front, providing privacy for homeowners. Walkable sidewalks and lush, green lawns border the neighborhood roads, adding to the park-like feel of the neighborhood. Three- and four-bedroom houses often cost between $700,000 to $1 million, while five-bedroom homes can cost between $1 million and $2 million. Spencer says buyers should be prepared to act quickly when looking at homes in Kenwood. “The market is consistent. Kenwood is a coveted neighborhood in Minneapolis, and homes usually do not stay on the market that long,” he says.
