Kenwood residents have access to multiple parks that provide four seasons’ worth of activity. Lake of the Isles Park is on the neighborhood’s east side and surrounds the lake of the same name. A large paved path offers room for walking, running or cycling, while the lake lends itself to canoeing, kayaking and fishing. During the winter, the lake is a popular destination for sports such as ice hockey and ice skating. To the west of the neighborhood is Cedar Lake. Residents flock to Cedar Lake East Beach during the summer to dip in the lake and cool off. Residents can head just east of the neighborhood to Hennepin Avenue, which is lined with local restaurants like Red Cow, Uptown Diner and Soho Café, which serve a variety of dishes from burgers to Italian. Students in Kenwood will likely attend Kenwood Elementary School, rated an A-minus by Niche; Anwatin Middle School, rated a C; and North High School, rated a C-minus. Kenwood Elementary has a strong focus on the arts and offers before- and after-school programming, such as Spanish, French, and chess clubs. North High School serves approximately 400 students and has a student-teacher ratio of 13-to-1. Students can take AP courses and College in the Schools classes, which allow them to earn college credit. There are multiple historic churches in Kenwood where residents can worship. Lake of the Isles Lutheran Church and Saint Paul’s Church on Lake of the Isles are each located near the lake. Kenwood residents have access to public transit with the 25 line of the METRO bus system running through the neighborhood. The route has stops on Oliver Avenue, West 21st Street and Sheridan Avenue, and can take residents east to downtown. For those who prefer to drive, downtown is just 3.5 miles away on Hennepin Avenue, giving residents easy access to attractions like U.S. Bank Stadium, Target Field, the Minneapolis Civil Rights Museum and the Minnesota Orchestra. For longer travels, Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport is about 13.5 miles south on Interstate 35W.
